ELETTER 3/28/10:

GOD is working as He always does in the Haiti relief effort. Supplies are arriving including tents, generators, medical supplies, personal care buckets, etc. These items are being distributed to the community as well as being given to several of the churches in the Port-au-Prince area.

Our volunteer camp/medical clinic location is coming along very well also. They will have water by tomorrow, the showers and restrooms are complete, the security wall is complete and now all that's needed are the interior walls for the clinic.

Now that our tents have arrived the orphanage can begin as well as the school. We are still in need of a few more sponsors for the children. It is only $40./month to feed, clothe and house each child. We are also in need of funding to hire 4-6 teachers for the school at $150./month per teacher.

We are desperately needing volunteers of all types. Building/contractors, teachers, cooks, child care help, medical personnel, any and all help is needed. The cost for airfare has been running approx. $1000.-$1200. round trip. Once onsite, DRT will provide meals, transportation, etc.
If you find it in your heart to help those who so desperately need and appreciate it, please go online to the DRT website and register to volunteer. http://www.churchesofchristdrt.org

It is going to take much funding and a long time to accomplish what is needed in the Lilavois area of Port-au-Prince. If you are able to help support a child or teacher or to donate to the relief effort in general, please do so online through PayPal on the DRT website or by postal mail

3/3/10 UPDATE

Mark Cremeans (DRT Director) and Duane Kemp (DRT Coordinator) arrived safely in Port-au-Prince Monday. They are working on getting the tent city and orphanage/school set up as well as securing the church building to put in a clinic. We will begin scheduling volunteers within the week to help with the set up.

2/09/10 UPDATE FROM LUC BOUQUET IN PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI
I hope and pray this will find you all in good health and heart. I would like to thank all of you for your prayers and financial support. Your gracious generosity has made a world of difference. Right now at the make shift tent hospital we have 70 patients that sustained massive trauma such as crushed pelvis, femur, skull, and so forth. at the ambulatory care we have seen between 150 and 200 people a day with all kind of medical conditions and minor injuries. at the main hospital in Port-Au-Prince there are more than 3000 amputees and I keep on telling people the worst is yet to come. Right now we are able to provide the patient with one meal a day and that's all they have. please continue to pray for our safety and for God to open doors for me to stay in Haiti and continue to provide for the spiritual and physical needs of the haitian people. May God continue to bless you in your work for Him

Your brother in christ

Luc L. bouquet

From the BLOG 2/24/10:

THOUSANDS of homeless children orphaned by the Haiti earthquake are just wandering the streets of Port-au-Prince. I received word yesterday of an abandoned preemie baby that needed a place to go.... there are stories upon stories since the quake hit..... all ending the same..... nowhere for these children to go, no one to care for them. These children have been tugging at my heartstrings since the disaster hit..... and I believe they are tugging at yours as well.

What can we do?? We know that we can't help the thousands of children but we can help many. We will be working with Luc Bouquet in Lilavois (outskirts of PAP) to open an orphanage. We have plenty of room we just need funding to provide for the children. WILL YOU HELP?? Together if we each help just one child..... many of these children can have a loving home. I will see to it. Will you sponsor 1 child at $40./month?? THEY NEED YOU.....THEY NEED US.
Please send me an email to let me know of your pledge to these children so we can go ahead and get started. disasterrelief @hotmail.com
Your support for the children can be made through PayPal on our website: http://www.churchesofchristdrt.org or sent to:

Hello,

We wanted to send you an update following the DRT trip and assessments in Haiti.

We are so thankful to all of you that are sending financial donations, conducting special contributions in your churches and collecting and sending supplies to us. Please continue to pass the word about this effort. It will continue for a long time and will take countless hours of volunteering as well as and incredible amount of funding.

It all sounds pretty good on the surface..... We are sending tents, basic needs supplies, food and medical supplies to Haiti. Thanks to so many of you through your monetary and supply donations DRT is able to help some of the Haitian people.......... While this is great and good things are happening.....like the 7 baptisms through Jean Robert at the Delmas 43 church this past Sunday!!...... SO MUCH MORE is still needed.

DRT has many organizations and churches here in the states working with us. We know from experience that the best way to get the most accomplished is to work together rather than through individual efforts. DRT will be working with the local congregations in Port-au-Prince and the surrounding areas, orphanages and children's homes as well as the clinic we have set up and others that will be set up soon.

Over 1,000 members of the church in Port-au-Prince are still without any type of housing.....this doesn't even include the remaining 3 million people in Port-au-Prince.

The DRT's focus is currently on the immediate needs. Below is the beginning phase we are working on.

FROM THE WEBSITE:

1/21/10 UPDATE FROM THE WEBSITE:

The following are updates for the areas we are currently working with. Other areas will be added as soon as we can. We are finalizing details on housing and transportation for volunteers and hope to have that in place by Friday, 1/22/10. Please continue to keep the earthquake survivors as well as those attending to them in your prayers.

Port-au-Prince Clinic Update:

We currently have Luc Bouquet, a nurse practitioner from our Melbourne, FL congregation working a clinic in Port-au-Prince. When I spoke with him the other day, he had provided medical care for wounds and serious injuries to 100-130 children under the age of 10 just that day alone.

Sonlight Childrens Home Update:

A team from the Estes congregation as well as others left this morning for Santiago DR where they will then take a bus into Santos Haiti to help rebuild the surrounding walls that were damaged to the Sonlight Children's Home Compound. They are feeding approx. 150 people per day from this location. Containers will be shipped from the U.S. with supplies to distribute.

We are working with the Northeast COC in Kingsport, TN to help this congregation as well as others in the surrounding areas. We will be helping with getting supplies in, distributing supplies and food and rebuilding the church buildings. We are also collecting 4-6 person tents for families to stay in rather than on the streets where they are now.

Following is a list of items needed that will go into containers to be shipped to Haiti.

Please Note: No religious, military, or political items are to be placed in the buckets. If you would like to include a picture of your family and a BRIEF message of cheer to the Haitians who will receive the buckets/bags that will be fine.

The reason…the transportation costs are paid by the US government and they do not want tax dollars being sent to export any religion, military, or political agendas. When the items are distributed they are given by the Lord’s Church and the distribution of benevolent items should be conducted in the pattern of the New Testament.

Family Buckets—Use a large plastic bucket with a lid to pack items as these:
