City of Miami
For anyone who would like to get involved in the Haitian aid efforts, the City of Miami and local partners have a warehouse to accept donation of items, such as non-perishable food, clothing, generators, flashlights, tents, shoes, or anything that one could use after losing their home. The coordinators really need helping hands to help sort, package, catalog the items received. If you are interested email haitireliefvolunteers @gmail.com or call 305-960-4660 and they will schedule you on one of their shifts. The warehouse is located at 7230 NW Miami Court should you want to drop off any items.
County and municipalities
The County and municipalities have begun collecting much-needed supplise and need volunteers to help sort, wrap and load the donated items. Two volunteers are needed daily for a morning shift (7am - 1pm) and 2 more for an afternoon shift (1pm - 7pm). If interested, please contact Vanessa Benavides at benavide@unitedwaymiami.org or 305-978-7084. The warehouse is located at the Lightspeed Building, 11500 NW 25 Street, Doral, FL.
Switchboard of Miami, Inc.
Switchboard of Miami, Inc. anticipates both an increased call volume and need for community mental health outreach. This Miami grassroots organization is seeking short-term volunteers and interns with backgrounds in mental health, social work, psychology and/or psychiatry to answer incoming calls and to assist with special community mental needs related to the earthquake in Haiti. All compassionate, caring individuals speaking ANY language but specifically Creole, of course, are needed. Orientation will be provided, but volunteers or interns who want to help in this manner should be prepared to "roll-up their sleeves" and get started immediately.
Those interested should call or email Carolyn Broughton 305-358-1640 x 159 or cbroughton @switchboardmiami.org.
