About this facility
- Mission
- InterAction’s members respond to natural disasters and complex emergencies around the globe, drawing on decades of professional experience. With funding from private donors, governments and the UN, U.S. NGOs are able to provide direct disaster relief, bring in supplies and commodities and help communities recover. Through the Humanitarian Policy & Practice Team, InterAction assists its members to educate the public, coordinate with one another, engage and advocate with other actors in the international humanitarian community and increase professionalism through work on InterAction’s Private Voluntary Organization (PVO) Standards, engagement with the Sphere Project and other initiatives. InterAction's Member Activity Reports offer international agencies, NGOs, the media and the public an in-depth look at the humanitarian and development assistance that InterAction member organizations are providing to people in various countries.

Notes
On January 12th, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck 10 miles outside the capital city of Haiti. The capital city has been devastated with collapsed buildings and people trapped beneath the rubble. Full reports of casualties, damage and needs are not yet available.
A number of InterAction members are responding to the needs of the affected population, many with years of experience working in the country.
InterAction has also developed guidelines on the most appropriate ways to help those affected by overseas disasters: http://www.interaction.org/how-help
