Notes
Gifts of physical items such a medical equipment and
supplies, construction equipment, or vehicles such as
RVs and motor homes often can be put into ministry use
very effectively. Samaritan's Purse has specific needs
and requirements at different times, so it is important
to check with us for a list of current needs at:
https://www.samaritanspurse.org/Giving_GIK.asp
When disasters strike, we want to be able to respond
immediately with practical help and the hope of Jesus
Christ. By working with volunteers, Samaritan's Purse
can bring relief quickly to those who are suffering-
wherever they may be. Volunteers should be committed
Christians who want to provide compassionate, competent
service in the Name of Christ.
Samaritan's Purse specializes in meeting critical needs
for victims of war, disaster, famine, and epidemics in
the world?s most troubled regions. We match resources to
needs, personnel to situations, capabilities to
opportunities. We often work through ministry partners
already on the scene of a crisis. At other times, we send
in teams to help. No job is too large or too small, and
no land is too far away.
Volunteer Teams for Cleanup and Repair
Samaritan's Purse has mobilized hundreds of volunteers to
work with our Disaster Relief Units to help those in greatest
need, particularly the poor and elderly. Duties include
cleaning out mud and ruined materials; removing fallen trees
and debris; and repairing damaged roofs and covering them with
weatherproof plastic.
We are looking for volunteer teams of up to 15 people, minimum
age 16, who are willing to serve for at least three work days.
For volunteers who are 16 or 17 years of age, a parent is
required to sign a release form on-site for that child and must
work on-site with the child at all times.
Your team should be organized before you contact us. You will
need to provide the number of team members, dates available, and
other information when you contact us.
Your team is responsible for providing your own transportation
to and from the disaster relief site.
Your sleeping quarters and meals will be provided. You will need
to bring your own cot or air mattress, sheets, towels, and personal
hygiene items.
Construction skills are very useful. Supplying your own tools,
such as chainsaws, is helpful, but not mandatory.
Teams should not bring additional supplies--food, water, clothing,
etc.--for the victims, as we are not set up to distribute relief
supplies.
You and your team can be a part of this rewarding ministry.
Samaritan's Purse will be working in the New Orleans area and the
Gulf Coast region throughout 2006 and into '07, helping families
rebuild and recover, and we have an urgent need for thousands more
volunteers to work in all of our locations. Come and join us as we
reach out to Hurricane Katrina victims.
