About this facility

Mission
The Faculty of Nursing Science shares the University’s commitment to teaching, research, and service and its recognition of the power of a Christian message in all we do. Our mission is to offer a professional program of study in nursing science, incorporating public health principles and practices, to prepare its graduates for effective health care service as clinicians, leaders and agents of change. About Us (From the site): The Haiti Nursing Foundation (HNF) was begun in 2005 to serve as a means to provide financial support to the school of nursing, Faculté des Sciences Infirmières [de Léogâne] l’Université Episcopale d’Haïti (Faculty of Nursing Science of the Episcopal University of Haiti or FSIL), and to provide funding for selected projects to improve nursing in Haiti. Funds raised by HNF are primarily used for operational expenses and student support at FSIL: Faculty and staff salaries • Tuition (scholarships)
Utilities and building maintenance • Uniforms, textbooks
Vehicles, gas, and maintenance • Room and board
Library books, Internet service, etc. • Transportation to clinical sites
The HNF was formed to facilitate a mechanism for churches and individual donors as well as foundations to provide funds to support the development of FSIL over the next several years. In addition, funds are raised to assist other selected projects to improve nursing care in Haiti. The HNF Board reviews requests for funding and makes decisions in order to select appropriate projects, monitors the expenditures of the FSIL on a quarterly basis to assure that the funds are being spent appropriately, and oversees the expenditures of any other approved Haiti nursing improvement projects. HNF was incorporated February 8, 2005, in the State of Michigan by Ruth Barnard, Margie VanMeter, and Jerold Veldman. The Articles of Incorporation are available in the Legal & Financial section of this website. Application was made to the Internal Revenue Service for tax-exempt status through the 501(c)(3) section and was approved retroactive to the incorporation date.

11/12/10 3:15 PM - HEAS POST:

Dr Wilson,

Just got off the phone with Joseph Charles, Surgeon - 3486-9738. Looks like
Cholera made it to Léogâne...

- MSF has lab confirmed 2 cases of cholera, Léogâne residents, no travel
history
- MSF has another 3 highly suspected cases
- They will no longer test because once there are confirmed cases the
epidemic is confirmed

He made the excellent point that these people were probably contaminated
through exchange of money / commerce.

FROM THE WEBSITE 1/29/10:

Haiti Nursing Foundation and the FSIL School of Nursing are here for the duration. Your support translates into hope for the future of nursing and healthcare in Haiti, which this school represents. When the injured have been treated and gone home, when the visiting medical people have returned to their own countries, we will help the FSIL nursing students come back to school and complete their education.

We hope you’ll join us in this effort.
