About this facility

Mission
The United States Foundation for the Children of Haiti (USFCH), working as a 501c3 organization, is dedicated to providing financial, medical, and religious support and assistance to the needy children of Haiti through its alliance with Fondation Pour les Enfants d'Haiti (FEH). Through the efforts of FEH and USFCH, children who might otherwise die as a consequence of the worst poverty in the western hemisphere have an opportunity to live and grow in an environment of love and security. FEH and USFCH at all times seek the will of God in fulfilling their mission. FEH is a Haitian organization, without ties to the Haitian government, which works to save the lives of children in Haiti. FEH is recognized by the governments of both The United States of American and Haiti as an official non-government organization (NGO). The United States Foundation for the Children of Haiti (USFCH) recognizes and upholds the importance of supporting Haitians in their country and respecting their autonomy

2/9/10 Emailed current list of Urgent Needs from Rebecca Hackworth (on the ground in Haiti on site):

Hello Leslie,

Good to hear from you, I brought your list to Gladys Thomas here at the Foundation for the Children of Haiti to make sure she knew about the resources you mentioned to us. Yes, I’m still in Haiti working.

Gladys said she could use about 200 tents. We have patients ready to discharge from the hospital who are homeless. There are also many of our staff without homes here in Haiti.

We are getting some donation of food but cannot seem to get any powdered milk or sugar so those things are needed.

Soy formula for the babies is also needed.

Diapers we are using here on the pediatric unit and actually we need them in all sizes for many of the patients who are not ambulatory yet.

We could use some gently used clothing for babies, children and adults in good condition but this would probably be at the bottom of our needs list – we could use some for the patients we are discharging without anything.

We are looking for mattresses (twin size) for the hospital, flat sheets all sizes, towels and washcloths

Hygiene items like toothbrushes, toothpaste and soap, shampoo, etc. to send out with patients leaving as well.

Those are some, and we are keeping our list of needs updated on our website too at www.usfch.org

Bless you in your work, Leslie!

Rebecca

-School on site
-Childrens Hospital on site fully staffed - Accepting injuries from the community - all ages
-Provided detailed food list - they had enough groceries for a week just before the quake - they are running low and supplies are very hard to come by
-Rebecca will be on the ground in Haiti in 2 days and will stay for 5 days - email contact only or contact stateside (see internal contact info)
-Earthquake damage - The older children's bldg. is unsafe and a wall came down - this is why they need the grout to shore it back up safely
-This is a secure site - The PaP Haitian Police are guarding the hospital and the U.S. Military has offered additional security details
-Medical supplies and food remain the most ongoing urgent need
-Rebuilding needs to take place with haste due to hurricane season coming in 5 mos.
-They are anxious to hook into an ongoing supply delivery if it becomes available
-Stateside donation collections of supplies is slowly trickling in - they can use the support to continue to ship in supplies if they cannot be secured on the ground
-This operation was rated in the TOP TWO with rave approval rate from UNICEF - They only granted this rating to two orphanages in the entire country

Haiti Home for Children is a safe, clean, Christian based orphanage for up to ninety children ages two to fourteen. The children live in family groups of ten to twelve, divided by age and gender, with a Momma who sees to their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. Each apartment has a kitchen, dining room, bathrooms and one or more bedrooms. Not only do the children find security and stability in eating and sleeping together, they study, play, and worship as a family group.

After completing elementary education, children who have extended families leave Haiti Home. Those who have no known family are allowed to stay, helping with the younger children and continuing their educations.
