2010 HAITI EARTHQUAKE
http://www.grossmanburnfoundation.org/haiti.html
For more than 40 years, the Grossman Burn Centers have been committed to helping people in distress. It’s in our Mission Statement, and it’s in the DNA of every healthcare professional on the Grossman Burn Centers team. But this compassion is not limited to those who have been badly burned; we try to help wherever we see a need and a chance to make a difference.
Today we are asking you to join us in reaching out to the desperate people whose lives have been devastated by the recent earthquake in Haiti.
The Grossman Burn Foundation has a plan to provide housing and supplies for at least 100 displaced people in the earthquake-devastated region. Working with a company called Shelter Box, we are seeking to raise $10,000 to purchase 8-10 “Shelter Boxes” that will be shipped directly to Haiti and used to house displaced victims while rescue, recovery, and rebuilding efforts are underway. Each “Shelter Box” costs $1,000, and Dr's. Richard and Peter Grossman have each made a contribution to purchase the first shelter. We are hoping you will choose to help by making a tax deductible contribution in whatever amount you can possibly spare to help purchase additional shelter boxes.
Shelter Box started as a grassroots Rotary Club project in England to provide shelter for disaster victims around the globe. Every Shelter Box includes a ten- twelve-person tent that has privacy partitions which allow recipients to divide the space as they see fit, and is designed to withstand extreme temperatures, high winds and heavy rainfall. Additionally, each shelter box contains children’s drawing books, crayons and pens, along with a range of survival equipment including thermal blankets and insulated ground sheets, a water purification system, a hammer, an axe, a saw, a trenching shovel, a hoe head, pliers, wire cutters, and either a wood burning or multi-fuel stove. Shelter Box handles all logistics and delivery, and every box is individually numbered so donors can track the status of their box via the ShelterBox.org website.
We were moved to undertake this effort after one of the medical assistants at the Grossman Burn Center’s Sherman Oaks office asked a simple question: “Isn’t there something we can do?” Often, we’re paralyzed into inaction because we just don’t know what to do. However, purchasing Shelter Boxes is something meaningful we can all do together.
To make a tax deductible contribution in whatever amount you can afford-- $5, $10, $20, more if you can-- click on the “Donate Now” tab on the Grossman Burn Foundation Website Home Page (www.grossmanburnfoundation.org). Every dollar will make a genuine difference in someone’s life.
Please pass this along to family and friends. Let’s see if we can beat our goal of 10 Shelter Boxes. Thank you for helping make this effort possible, and for making a difference in the lives of men, women, and children who desperately need our collective help.
