Notes
FROM THE WEBSITE:
January 12, 2010
A devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Port-Au-Prince this afternoon. Land line and mobile phone communications have been cut off in the capital, so we have no word yet from our clinic staff. There are no live radio broadcasts coming from the country.
It was the largest earthquake to hit the impoverished country, since 1984. The vibrations lasted for more than a minute and were felt as far away as Cuba. After shocks have been coming on a regular basis.Widespread damage and countless casualties are very likely in Cite Soleil. "The headquarters of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti has been destroyed in large part. There are numerous people underneath the rubble, both dead and injured," a local employee of the UN force told Agence France-Presse. This building is less than 2 miles from the Lamp Clinic.
The Lamp is responding, rushing emergency supplies to children and families most in need. I will be traveling to Haiti on Sunday January 17.
Your help is urgently needed. Your generous gift today will help provide emergency food and family survival kits. In addition to immediate life-saving aid, your gift will also provide for the long-term needs of children and families, rebuilding our clinic, if necessary, and restoring hope as we always do.
Thank you for your support through this crisis and everyday as we walk along with the poor in Haiti.

Executive Director
