About this facility

Mission
Children In Need Haitian Project(CINHP) is a small charitable organization that began out of a love for the Haitian people and especially the Haitian children. We saw communities of people who lacked even the most basic needs, and decided to do what we could to help. Our goal is to bring hope to impoverished Haitian families by working closely with local pastors and community leaders to provide: * Christian education with nourishing meals for students
* Basic health care and health education
* Job training and literacy classes for adults
* Assistance with community development projects
With the help of family, friends, and churches we began a community development project by reopening a school that had been closed for 3 years in the area of L'Espinasse, Haiti located high in the mountains outside Port-au-Prince. Our school which opened in 2005 now includes Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 2nd Grade. and we currently have 75 students enrolled.
Areas served
L’Espinasse, Nouvelle Touraine, Jacquet, Grenier, Petionville
Service

DISTRIBUTION

What a blessing…doors opened by God so Children In Need Haitian Project could obtain food in Haiti for the earthquake relief effort. Thanks to US AID, World Vision, and the persistence of our people in Haiti and in NY, 200 bags (110 lbs each) of bulgur wheat, 50 bags (110 lbs per bag) of lentils, and 500 gallons of cooking oil were donated to CINHP for distribution in several rural areas.

It took a police escort of 8 plus several armed security guards to escort the truckload of food to our depot. All of it arrived intact in spite of the fact that the truck broke down on the way up the mountain and had to be reloaded on another truck to continue the journey. These are just a few of the obstacles making food distribution difficult in this country.

With families receiving about 20kg of food, this is enough for about 500 families. We distributed much of the food to those affected in our community development area of L’Espinasse, and to the needy near the location of our house. In addition, other communities in Nouvelle Touraine, Jacquet, and Grenier were helped.

The food distribution in L’Espinasse was well organized and with good cooperation of the people, 170 families were given food (see pictures). We had an opportunity to pray with all of them, thanking God for his provision. We are so privileged to be able to be a part of the solution, however insignificant it seems in the scope of the situation. Hearing the gratefulness and seeing the faces of the recipients one on one made it worthwhile for me. I also was so proud to see “USA” written on all the food containers

EARTHQUAKE RELIEF

Here are some of the initial projects we have been involved in during the earthquake recovery.

• Set up temporary First Aid stations along the road treating injured people leaving the city and heading up the mountain by foot.
• Assisted a heavily damaged area of Petionville by cleaning and bandaging wounds, providing antibiotics and pain medication for the injured.
• One day we fed 50 children, another day 250. It was a delicious meal of rice and beans with a vegetable sauce on top. Another organization came through the neighborhood distributing clean drinking water from a big drum on the back of a truck.
• Distributing packets of food (including rice, beans, oil, sugar) in the rural area past our home and in the community where our school is located. Relief food is difficult to obtain in Haiti, so we have been buying wholesale food for distribution.
• Provided food and shelter for 6+ displaced people in our home.
