About this facility

Mission
Church World Service works with partners to eradicate hunger and poverty and to promote peace and justice around the world.
Together we reach out to neighbors in need near and far--not with a hand out, but a hand up. So, if you’re looking to help build a better world—a world where there’s enough for all—you’ve come to the right place!
Around the world, Church World Service supports sustainable grassroots development, disaster relief, and refugee assistance, and we educate and advocate on hunger-related issues. In the U.S., we help communities respond to disasters, resettle refugees, promote fair national and international policies, and provide educational resources. Church World Service helps the faith community play its special role in disaster mitigation, preparedness, and response in the U.S. and around the world -- which is to: * Stand on the side of the oppressed through advocacy with and for those most in need.
* Seek out unmet needs of all survivors -- particularly people who were vulnerable and marginalized before the disaster.
* Provide a larger vision of life that includes emotional and spiritual care as well as physical rebuilding.
* Assist in long-term recovery of those in need.
* Restore and build community relationships.

Church World Service response

CWS has been in contact with local partners in Chile, including Fundación de Ayuda de las Iglesias Cristianas (FASIC) and the Methodist Church of Chile, and also with members of the ACT Alliance. ACT Alliance members active in Chile include the Lutheran World Federation and the regional organization Centro Regional Ecuménico de Asesoría y Servicio (CREAS). The partners in Chile are conducting assessments.

CWS staff have also been in contact with the Hawaii Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster. CWS has long ties in Hawaii with the VOAD and with the United Church of Christ, a CWS member denomination.
