About this facility

Mission
The Missionaries of the Poor (MOP) is an international monastic order of Brothers dedicated to "Joyful Service with Christ on the Cross" to serve the poorest of the poor. The order was started in 1981 by Father Richard Ho Lung and has now grown to over 500 brothers around the world. We have free missions around the globe. Our main home is in Kingston, Jamaica, where we maintain six mission homes. The Brothers also serve the Lord with their acts of mercy in Jamaica (Kingston), India (Andhra Pradesh & Orissa), the Philippines (Naga City & Cebu), Haiti (Cap-Haitien), Uganda (Kampala), Kenya (Nairobi) and the United States (Monroe, NC). We welcome lay volunteers to come and join us in our work and welcome all to join our spirituality and prayer life. Our mission is to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ primarily by works of mercy and secondarily through liturgy, preaching, music, teaching and sacraments.

USED CLOTHING NEEDED
gently used, summer only
(all sizes: baby, toddler, girls, boys, men and women)

This clothing will be going to an area in Haiti called Cap Haitien where some 300+ evacuees from Port au Prince are being cared for by The Missionaries of the Poor

A group from St. Matthew Catholic Church will be shipping a container down in less than 2 weeks so we are trying to collect items as quickly as possible. You can see the container parked in the church parking lot at 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway. We are also purchasing new mattresses, tents, plywood (to repair a roof) and mosquito nets if you would like to make a monetary contribution as well. Checks would be made out to St. Matthew Catholic Church and reference Haiti Relief.

We have 5 neighbors in PCC that are collecting clothing:

Laura Kenkel at 5711 PCC Drive 704-841-7846 704-841-7846

Lucie Tonon at 5301 Sunningdale Dr 704-814-9528 704-814-9528

Jennifer Tolley at 5818 Bruntsfield Pl 704-847-4737 704-847-4737

Riki Price at 11929 Royal Lytham Ct 704-844-6090 704-844-6090

Susan Brouse at 11101 Colonial Country 704-844-075

If you have any summer type clothing that you can donate in the next 5 days or so, please call or leave it at one of these houses. We will all be on the look-out for bags or plastic containers (much needed also).

God bless you all for your donations to the poor.
