Notes
Temporary Protected Status. It is a special immigration status that was granted on January 15 to Haitians living in the U.S., and allows them to live and work legally in this country. The ability to obtain a work permit is of particular importance as it allows Haitians to safely send much needed remittances to relatives and others in Haiti.
The Haitian TPS Pro Bono Directory is a project of the Lawyers' Earthquake Response Network (LERN), which is in turn coordinated by the Institute for Justice & Democracy in Haiti (IJDH). The Directory, hosted by ProBono.net, supports TPS service providers by a) connecting volunteer attorneys, law students and others with free or low-cost legal service providers who need help in their Haitian TPS efforts, including on-site assistance and off-site legal research; b) facilitate effective coordination among service providers, including sharing legal research, training materials, and the lessons of experience; and c) coordinate policy advocacy related to Haitian TPS.
For ORGANIZATIONS to join the network simply fill out a very brief survey http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/7SG3J8L by Friday, April 16, and join us in our efforts to better serve Haitian TPS applicants.
