State officials are set up at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds in Jackson to take donations of bottled water and nonperishable food for victims of Saturday’s tornado.
Gov. Haley Barbour says the state Department of Agriculture opened the fairgrounds Sunday to collect the water and food for later transport to storm ravaged areas.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said earlier Sunday that water, ready-to-eat meals, tarps and light towers were being delivered to counties where storm damage occurred.

The Hinds County Sheriff’s Department along with the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce and Church of Christ Disaster Relief team has set up an 18 wheeler at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds to accept non-perishable food, bottled water, clothing and bedding and other items to aid in relief efforts for storm victims. They will be at that location all week. All of the donated items are then transported to Yazoo City Church of Christ, 1230 E. Broadway, Yazoo City, for distribution each evening. The church is only open during daylight hours.
Donations are also being accepted in Yazoo City at 1601 County Barn Road.
