• The River Road Utility District has issued a boil alert for its customers and for the Christian Care Center of Cheatham County. There is a water breakage in the water line, officials said.

• Officials are still waiting to hear how they will handle debris removal. County Mayor Bill Orange said bids are being received to hire a company to assist with roadside debris removal. Residents with debris should leave it in the right-of-way, not their yards.

• Residents will not be charged for flood-related debris that is taken to the landfill on Sams Creek Road, Orange said. He added that permit fees will likely not be charged during the recovery period.

• The county is still waiting on FEMA representatives to set up in the county. Disaster assistance sites have not yet been determined. Since the county has been declared a federal disaster area, residents and business owners who sustained losses can begin applying for assistance immediately by registering online at www.fema.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).

• Businesses affected by the flood are asked to contact the Cheatham County Chamber of Commerce at 792-6722 to begin the process for federal assistance.

• Two drop-off/assistance centers remain open in the county: the old Fred’s (next to Tractor Supply) on Highway 49 in Ashland City. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Harpeth Middle School on Kingston Springs Road. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Clothes can be taken to the Bethesda Center on Main Street in Ashland City. Residents needing food or other supplies can stop by these locations.

• Some of the supplies that are needed include masks, gloves and bug spray.

• School officials are currently cleaning up Pegram Elementary School. A meeting is scheduled for Thursday afternoon to determine how the school district will operate due to damaged roads, Hogan said. Schools will be closed Friday.

• If you are going to be exposed to the floodwaters, health officials are recommending that you get a tetanus shot (if you haven’t had one in the last five years). About 200 shots are available at the Cheatham County Health Department off Frey Street in Ashland City and more are on order. The department’s number is 792-4318.

• Groups that want to volunteer to help with the clean up are asked to visit the Cheatham County Chamber of Commerce’s Web site at www.cheathamchamber.org to register.

• Congressman Jim Cooper’s office has issued a report on FEMA assistance for flood victims. Here are some steps to take to rebuild your home:

Step one: Residents should immediately contact their insurance company.

Step two: If you have flood insurance, it may cover the costs of repairing your home and replacing destroyed belongings. However, it may not cover the cost of staying elsewhere during the flooding or while repairs are made.

Step three: If you are forced to evacuate your home, staying in a hotel or even with a relative, FEMA housing assistance is available to cover some of these costs. You will have to register for assistance with FEMA at DisasterAssistance.gov or 800-621-FEMA (3362).

Step four: When you register with FEMA, they will send you a Small Business Administration packet. You may be eligible, through the SBA, for a federally subsidized SBA loan. These low-interest rate loans may be up to $200,000 to repair or rebuild your home and $40,000 to replace lost possessions even if you don’t own a small business. The SBA will then arrange to come to your home and inspect the damages.

Step five: If you can’t obtain an SBA loan, you may apply for other FEMA assistance at DisasterAssistance.org or 800-621-FEMA (3362). This assistance will only cover costs to bring your home up to a minimally habitable standard. FEMA will (separate from SBA) come to your home to inspect the damage. FEMA assistance is capped at $29,900, including any FEMA housing assistance you may have received in step three.
