How to help flood victims, city

Each day while flood recovery continues The Leaf-Chronicle will use this space to provide a clearinghouse to match needs and donors. To add or remove items from Neighbors Helping Neighbors, e-mail the information to news@theleafchronicle.com and put "flood relief' in the subject line.

Some options for people in Montgomery County who need help or want to help are listed.

Helping Red Cross

•Clothing and food donations are being channeled through the United Way office on Madison Street. Non-perishable food items are needed.

•Adult Red Cross volunteers are needed.

•The Clarksville Area Ministerial Association has established a Flood Victim's Relief. Collection and distribution hours are: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Faith Outreach Church, 731 Winderemere Drive. Donations of non-perishable foods, new and good, laundered clothes, shoes, blankets, and bottled water are needed. Call 931-358-3010.

•Clarksville Association of Realtors has organized a furniture collection drive to assist people affected by the flooding. Exit Realty Clarksville has volunteered to be a collection point. They ask that if you have any gently used furniture, mattresses and sheet sets to please drop them off at their office (1289 Northfield Drive). Contact Tracy Duffy at (931) 338-2734.

•New Providence Church of Christ. Flood victims can receive toiletries and canned food items from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the New Providence Church of Christ, 421 Providence Boulevard. A truck load of food and hygiene items are coming from the Church of Christ Relief Center in Nashville. Anyone needing more information can call the church at 647-7825.
Long term help

•Call Deborah Grubbs at 648-5774, ext. 103, if you want to volunteer your time for specific purposes. Grubbs is the retired Senior Volunteer Program director for the Community Action Agency. Grubbs is compiling a list of what people can offer services and what people might need.

•The Rev. Ron Edmondson, pastor at Grace Community Church, said the church's website at www.GcomChurch.com is collecting names of people willing to volunteer in upcoming relief efforts.
