TIDR seeks to bring coordination and cooperation in relief efforts following a disaster with an eye for long- term recovery. Working with agencies, local governments, nonprofits and faith-based groups, TIDR seeks to match need with resources during the immediate crisis and continues to respond throughout the process of recovery, whether it be weeks, months or years. At the core of this effort is the understanding that each of our sisters and brothers is worthy of our time, effort and personal care.

We knew this would be a massive storm. Today and over the next few days we will learn of the destruction caused and find more and more ways to respond. Please keep evacuees and the many communities affected across our great state--in your prayers. And let's all stay in touch so that by working together we can coordinate the many gifts and resources that will be needed.
I thank the many of you who have helped evacuees, our guests, in some very creative ways! Keep the creativity flowing.

We are currently collecting funds to meet the varied unmet needs of evacuees, which can range from gas cards to personal items. These funds will go to helping disaster survivors in the Austin area. To make a donation, please go to the Donate section on our website.

Ike and the Aftermath of Gustav

TIDR Respond to Gustav
Many thanks to our many faith-based partners who assisted in helping evacuees from Hurricane Gustav. With your help, TIDR was able to provide clothing for several persons, air mattresses for sleeping at one of the local shelters, and gas cards to purchase at least one tank of gas for 104 cars with evacuee families.

A special word of thanks to Eastside Baptist Church, Pastor Leland Dandridge and members, and the St. John's District Association, and Shepherd of the Hills Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Pastor Rod Coleman and Rev. Lucinda Valenti, for their quick response to address special needs to families who evacuated to the Austin area.

Our other Hurricane Gustav partners include:

Bethany Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
Brentwood Oaks Church of Christ
Central Baptist Church
Eastside Baptist Church
First Baptist Church
Cal and Donna Elder
Gary Kansteiner and Debra Monroe
Grace Apostolic Temple
High Point Fellowship
Hill Country Bible Church
St. John's District Association
St. John's United Methodist Church
St. William's Catholic Church
Shepherd of the Hills Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
Unity Church of the Hills
Week of Compassion of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
Worship Life Inc.

TIDR works to bring coordination among Austin's faith community around issues of emergency and disaster. TIDR works through all phases of the cycle of disaster: response, recovery, preparedness and mitigation.

Collaborating with TIDR, Congregations and Houses of Worship are involved with a unique program that involves a Disaster Contact Person (DCP). The DCP receives updates and specific information about disaster-related situations that affect our communities. If you would like more information about TIDR and how your House of Worship can participate, please go to the Donate section under Volunteers or contact TIDR at (512) 458-8848.
