The STORM may be over, but the DISASTER is still with us!

Hurricane Rita hit the shores of southeast Texas and southwest
Louisiana on September 24, 2005 and is the fourth most intense
Atlantic hurricane ever recorded. Rita made landfall as a Category
3 storm with winds reaching 180 mph and caused 10 billion dollars
in damages. Over 475,000 families in Texas requested FEMA
assistance, of those 200,000 live in Jefferson, Orange and Hardin
counties.

Over 42,000 damaged homes are owned by persons 60 years of age or
older and had no insurance 19,000 of those families live in Jefferson,
Hardin and Orange counties.

There are currently 1,800 families in Jefferson, Hardin and Orange
counties living in FEMA trailers, of these 962 are elderly

Most of these families are trapped in leaking, mold infested homes
with little hope of recovery. Hundreds of homes have been transformed
by volunteers and donated materials, but thousands more need to be
repaired. Please... help us assist them!

What is SETIO?

Southeast Texas Interfaith Organization for Disaster Recovery (SETIO)
is a faith based long-term disaster recovery organization serving
Jefferson, Orange and Hardin counties. SETIO was created in the
Fall of 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Rita by local clergy
and community members with a mission to help those most vulnerable
members in the community especially the uninsured and underinsured
elderly, disabled and single parent families.

Due to the destruction of Hurricane Rita, SETIO's current focus is
addressing the needs of the most vulnerable families in Southeast
Texas by working as a catalyst to expand the scale and pace of
recovery. This is accomplished through increasing coordination with
community service providers, sustained mobilization of outside and
local volunteer resources, and utilization of both commercial contract
and volunteer labor.

Today SETIO consists of diverse local congregations, faith-based
community service organizations, businesses, state and local
government agencies and national disaster recovery organizations
such as Catholic Charities, Christian Reformed World Relief
Committee, Disciples of Christ, Lutheran Social Services Disaster
Response, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, United Methodist
Committee On Relief along with many others
