FROM THE UNITED WAY WEBSITE/MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX:

Montgomery County
Disaster Recovery Task Force

Every few years, tropical storms or hurricanes hits Montgomery
County, causing floods, downed trees and wind damage. During
these disasters, life is brought to a standstill – especially
for families whose homes have been damaged or destroyed. Often,
these families need help getting back on their feet again. After
Tropical Storm Allison in 2001, Montgomery County United Way
MCUW) stepped forward to coordinate and route resources and
information throughout the county on behalf of agencies and
households who had been flooded. Since that time, MCUW continues
to coordinate county efforts regarding disaster response and
recovery in several ways:

MCUW and Interfaith of The Woodlands hold quarterly meetings with
local agencies and faith communities to plan and coordinate efforts.

MCUW is the Donation Management coordinator for the county and
meets with local governments and businesses to enhance community
understanding of not-for-profit agencies’ role in the case of future disasters.

MCUW works closely with the University of Texas Medical Branch to
plan how to operationalize inoculation sites across the county, should
the need arise.

MCUW works with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and
other national agencies.

Organizations that participate in the Montgomery County Disaster
Recovery Task Force include:
