Notes
Go to the link above to find RED CROSS sponsored shelters. (there are usually MANY MORE shelters other than "Red Cross sponsored" shelters...run by local gov't, run by private groups)
[Editor's NOTE: we've noticed lately that the link DOES NOT WORK for people who don't allow cookies and other surveillance apps on their devices. The Red Cross is a great org, providing badly needed first response. However, we do not like that the link doesn't work on ANY device, and fear that this is a trend that's related to the "need" for large non-profits to gather a ton of personal info before they will help you. If that's the case, shame on you Red Cross. If it's not the case, please excuse our ignorance]
See the map at the link for open shelters. Below that is a list of openshelters.
You can also search by state/address.
Open Shelters are flagged. Put your mouse over a flag to get more info, click on it, and give it a moment and you'll see the address of the shelter and a capacity (number of people), if the information is available.
Here's the old address, that doesn't work as well, but for reference purposes: http://app.redcross.org/nss-app/
