Mission
Since 1947, the Health and Welfare Council of Long Island (HWCLI) has responded to the needs of Long Islanders through direct services and local, state and federal advocacy efforts. HWCLI has also served as the umbrella for public and voluntary agencies servicing Long Island’s poor and vulnerable individuals and families. MISSION HWCLI serves the interests of poor and vulnerable people on Long Island by convening, representing, and supporting the non-profit agencies that serve them; and through § Illuminating the issues that critically impact them

Organization Structure
The Health and Welfare Council of Long Island is a private, not for profit, health and human services planning, research/public education and advocacy organization that serves as the umbrella for public and voluntary agencies serving Long Island's poor and vulnerable individuals and families.
Mission Statement
To respond to the needs of Long Island's vulnerable families and individuals by promoting the development of public policies and services through:
• collaborative planning amongst voluntary and public providers,
• researching and advocating on public policy and legislative issues,
• providing information about services to the public,
• targeting outreach to ensure utilization of programs and benefits,
• sponsoring and/or undertaking of special projects.

While HWCLI provides direct services to individuals and families through multiple initiatives, its advocacy efforts address systemic issues and barriers on the local, state and federal levels. HWCLI responds to Long Island's needs through four focus areas:
