ACF in Haiti

After conducting emergency activities since 1988 in the fields of health and nutrition, Action contre la Faim settled, in 1998, programmes in the social and medical sectors. Since 2001, Action contre la Faim has concentrated on the provision of clean water, with its water, hygiene and sanitation programmes. Food security programmes aimed at providing immediate aid during crises but especially in the long-term, to give people the means to regain their autonomy. For 3 years, the surveys of Action contre la Faim operated in emergencies or with a view to « rehabilitation » in Port de Paix, Gonaïves, Anse Rouge and Jérémie.

Water, sanitation and hygiene

- Reconstruction of water networks
- Training of local people to maintain the networks
- Reinforcing the capacity of local authorities in managing networks
- Promotion of hygiene

Positioning in the field of risk and disaster management

- Responding to humanitarian emergencies following natural disasters
- Creation of an emergency stock
- Reducing risks or probable effects
- Reinforcing of the civil protection departmental committee
- Informing and increasing awareness of risk and disaster management

Positioning in the field of prevention
- Improving access to clean water (Port de Paix)
- Improving access to basic sanitary installations (Port-de-Paix)
- Improving knowledge and practices related to hygiene (Port-de-Paix, Saint Louis du Nord)
- Studies on the link between, poverty, rural exodus and environmental impact.
