- from website: Description of WFR Relief Ministries Goal: Helping communities in times of major disasters through local churches of Christ WFR Relief Ministries is a faith based disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization providing immediate response to emergency disasters through sister churches, their leaders and missionaries. We desire to help people, irrespective of race, creed or political persuasion to the glory of God. WFR Relief Ministries seeks contributions to facilitate acts of Christian compassion directed by local churches of Christ. For over two decades, the success of this ministry has been characterized by the meeting of real needs, targeting the very poorest and helpless, and successful advancement of the cause of Jesus Christ. We help deliver medicine, agriculture supplies and implements, and desperately needed food. Often we are able to make possible clean water and home gardens. In demonstrating concern for human suffering through local Christians, we are confirming God’s love. Our network of church leaders, missionaries and contributors around the world allows us to quickly determine and respond to legitimate needs. WFR Relief Ministries has helped local churches of Christ in over 50 countries as well as churches in many U. S. cities during times of disaster and human misery. With the assistance of sister humanitarian organizations we have developed strategic partnerships that multiply cash, volunteers and experience. Our focus continues to be disaster relief, but when funds are available we seek to improve lives of some of the poorest by helping improve water management, economic programs, agriculture improvements and health care. The WFR Church of Christ elders oversee this ministry through the appointment of a director, governing committee and the enforcement of strong accounting procedures. Annually they require an external audit of this ministry which has been directed by Don Yelton since its beginning in 1981. In disaster areas WFR Relief exclusively ministers through local churches of Christ encouraging them to work with appropriate organizations, government entities and welfare agencies responding to needs in their communities. The model we follow is biblical, time-tested, cost-effective and experience-driven. Fund raising and administration expenses are low because we have only one full-time and one part-time paid workers. We add value to every dollar given through our decades of experience and our strategic partnerships. We not only multiply contributor's gifts by volume purchasing, but we help recipient church leaders develop local partnerships that will often produce gifts-in-kind that are useful in reducing suffering. We welcome questions and suggestions that will improve our ministry. Isaiah 58:10 if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.

David made it back to the states yesterday. We are looking forward to the agricultural training that Lucner will provide to his people in the near future. Our team will go back in June. So much good work has been done and so many people have been helped. We have been blessed as we bless others in this ministry. Thanks be to God for the opportunity to help hurting people see His love

Having a Command Post and support of the local churches has been such a benefit for helping those in need. People are now realizing that the church has connections to many many resources and we have been able to connect the right people to make things happen. You can really see the providence of God at work in this relief effort. This morning, an orphanage approached David with a need for 10 hospital beds for the wounded orphans (many don't even know they are orphans yet). He made a call to a medical supply administrator with the need and guess how many hospital beds were available? TEN. Also, a nurse approached us, who was on her way back to the states with a lot of antibiotics that she could not take back. Minutes later, a doctor tells us that he is in desperate need of.......ANTIBIOTICS. The local hospitals do not feed their patients, so we have been able to provide many people there with food and water.

WFR Relief ministry volunteer, David Heath, reports that he is busy getting much needed medical supplies to hospitals and doctors. David’s extensive military back ground has uniquely equipped him to be the point man for operations on the island for WFR Relief. He has been able to get military assistance that very likely would not have possible but for his military training and connections.
David reports that food is in short supply but he is doing everything possible to acquire more. His is energy and enthusiasm personified and we are blessed to have him leading the charge to help the hurting of Haiti.
Our work so far has been focused on the immediate needs of the hungry and injured and establishing a command post and distribution network for ongoing operations. We are in Haiti for the long haul. In the not too distant future clearing rubble and rebuilding will be going full speed. Until then we will care for our Haitian brothers and sisters the best we can and empower them to reach out to those about them with a helping hand and the saving message of the good news about Jesus.
A sincere thank you to everyone who has prayed for our work and for the Haitian believers. And of course, we praise God for your generosity as you have given to make our relief work possible. Thank you for your faithfulness to help the those who lives have been forever changed. Because you cared, God will be glorified.
