Excerpts from Email to CHHN Yahoo Group Posted 11/22/10
The primary cholera treatment center in Cap is located at the gymnasium, close
to the Justinian Hospital, and is now run by Medicine San Frontier (MSF). It
has more than 600 patients in it; most extremely severe cases and some without
even a bed.

The folks that we have talked to at MSF are saying that they expect up to
1000-1500 cholera patients a day in Cap alone when this peaks in a couple of
weeks. MSF has provided the vast majority of cholera treatment in the country,
and it makes sense that they take the lead in this, and that we will play a
supportive role. For instance, they are going to fund local staff (it will take
local 160-200 to just staff this center), and they have asked us to help recruit
and hire them, which we are trying to do now. They are also open to having
ex-patriot volunteers, particularly seasoned nurses, assist them. They will
need to be self supporting. They could use 15-20 a day. If anyone is
interested in that, you can contact me or Carwyn at HHA.
