10/29/12: Email to HEAS
Due to the Hurricane Sandy, the 2nd Petiti-Bois (Turbe) is facing an increase of cholera cases. Last week despite our lack of personnel, the Community Clici of Turbe has treated a dozen of patients. We do have the facilities but we need personnel.

Hi Leslie,

I’m Lea the Operations Coordinator for MERLIN.

I would like to clarify the situation about the CTU in Turbe,

The CTU has been set up there by Merlin at the beginning of the epidemic in the area. The CTU has a bed capacity of 10 beds and received lots of patients since the beginning of the outbreak. MERLIN provide the following support to the CTU :

- Drugs and consumables
- Beds, pediluves, buckets etc.
- Salaries (all the staff there is paid by Merlin except Dr. Jecrois)
- Data collection and analysis
- Regular supervision by an expat doctor.

When the CTU is out of stock we are immediately inform and provision the Center as soon as we can, the same day if necessary.

Also, MERLIN is operating a CTC a few kilometres from Turbe and a ambulance that transfer all the cases with complications to the CTC.

The CTU is also supported by Plan Haiti in terms of water provision and sanitation and received already a number of items by other partners such as HRO, IOM etc.

So, the situation of the Turbe Health Center is actually very very far from being “terrible”...

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions/concerns about the CTU.

Best,

Lea GIBERT
Merlin

Hello,

I am the doctor who is in charge of the CTU at Turbe. The situation is terrible overthere. we are overwhelmed, since we are a small ctu with only 12 beds. From November 14 until now, we've been treating 500 patients. Given that we receive people from all over the mountains(Chacha, Belle fontaine, Detre, etc.), we always are in dire needs of supplies. we received 3weeks ago a substantial aid from HRO.

Best regards
