Shelters offer protection from cold, snow in King, Snohomish and Kitsap counties

Below-freezing temperatures are once again hitting the Seattle area Monday and Tuesday nights, and King, Snohomish and Kitsap county residents who need shelter from the cold can find it at more than a dozen warming shelters.

According to the National Weather Service, the temperature will dip to 27 degrees Monday night. Snow and a 31-degree low will hit Seattle Tuesday after dark.

The following shelters are open in Seattle:

YWCA Angeline's Center for Homeless Women, at 2030 Third Ave., is open nightly from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. It can accommodate up to 30 women.

The King County Administrative Building at 500 Fourth Ave. is open nightly from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. and can accommodate up to 50 men.

Seattle City Hall on Fourth Avenue between James and Cherry streets is open nightly starting at 9 p.m. and can accommodate up to 75 people. Call 684-0231 for more information.

The Frye Hotel at Third Avenue and Yesler Street is open nightly until further notice at 8 p.m. and can accommodate up to 25 women. Call 684-0231 for information.

The Rainier Room at Seattle Center at 805 Harrison St. is open Monday evening at 9 p.m. It accommodates both men and women.

In the rest of King County, the following shelters are open:

Crossroads Community Center at 16000 N.E. 10th St. in Bellevue is open whenever the overnight low is expected to drop below freezing, including Monday and Tuesday nights, from 8:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. It can accommodate up to 50 people. For more information, call 425-614-8544.

Kent Lutheran Church at 336 Second Ave. S. in Kent will be open from 9 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights to 7 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The Les Gove Building at 1020 Deals Way in Auburn is open from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. every day until further notice. Call 253-334-3860 for more information.

In Snohomish County, the following shelters are open:

Four Arlington churches are open this week as overnight warming shelters. All four accept people from 8 to 10 p.m. and close at 7 a.m. the following day. Immaculate Conception Church at 1200 E. Fifth St. will be open Monday night. Our Savior's Lutheran Church at 615 East Highland Drive will be open Tuesday and Wednesday nights; Arlington Free Methodist Church at 730 East Highland Drive will be open Thursday and Friday nights; Arlington United Church at 338 N. MacLeod Ave. will be open Saturday night; and Immaculate Conception Church is open again Sunday night. For information, call 360-403-4674.

The Salvation Army at 2525 Rucker Ave. in Everett is open from 8 p.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday.

A shelter in Lynnwood will be open Monday night. Anyone who wants to stay there should check in at 6:45 p.m. at Lynnwood City Hall, 19100 44th Ave. W, to get transportation to the shelter. It will close at 7 a.m. Tuesday. For more information, call 425-419-7938.

The following shelters in Kitsap County will open at 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and close at 7 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday:

The Coffee Oasis at 822 Burwell St. in Bremerton will accommodate teens only.

St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 700 Callahan Ave. in Bremerton is open to everyone.

First Lutheran Church of Poulsbo at 18920 4th Avenue Northeast in Poulsbo is open to everyone.
