Our Mission
Our mission is to help North American donors create thoughtful and effective philanthropy throughout the world. Individuals, corporations, charities and their advisors rely on us to develop, manage, and monitor their philanthropy; from goals to grants, from research to results.
Vision
Donors contact CAFAmerica with a foreign nonprofit in mind or to discuss their philanthropic vision. Foreign nonprofits contact CAFAmerica to become eligible to receive grants and improve their US fundraising potential.
Research
CAFAmerica conducts due diligence reviews for each recommended foreign nonprofit; or, CAFAmerica recommends strategies and vetted nonprofits that match donor goals. Donors also may use due diligence research outside of grant making.
Gift
Donors make a gift to CAFAmerica or establish a fund for ongoing grants and pay a percentage for administrative costs. CAFAmerica provides real-time, online access to fund activity.
Grant
CAFAmerica makes grants to foreign nonprofits and monitors their operations.
Impact
Grant recipients are required to report annually. CAFAmerica also assesses program impact through site visits, news reports, and other means.

Notes
CAFAmerica works with a number of international emergency response and relief organizations who are providing services and support for the communities impacted by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan.
March 2011
Massive Earthquake and Tsunami Devastates Japan
At 2:46 p.m. local time on March 11, 2011, a massive earthquake with a magnitude of 8.9 slammed Japan's northeastern coast and triggered a 30-foot tsunami, killing hundreds and washing away buildings, cars and homes in a matter of minutes. Northern coastal cities such as Sendai, Ofutano City and Onahama bore the immediate effects of the quake and tsunami most heavily, though fires have broken out and millions are without electricity in cities as far south as Tokyo. Police have recovered approximately 300 bodies in Sendai so far, and the number of casualties throughout the country is expected to rise dramatically in the coming days.
CAFAmerica works with a number of international emergency response and relief organizations who are providing services and support for the communities impacted by this tragedy. These include the IFRC, Oxfam UK, Doctors Without Borders and Christian Aid. This list will be expanding as more of our organizations turn their focus to providing support.
