About this facility

Mission
from website: What is CRASH?
Christian Relief, Assistance, Support and Hope (CRASH) is a network supporting Christians to do relief work in Japan and around the world. CRASH equips and prepares churches and missions to be there to help their communities when disasters strike and coordinates Christian volunteers to work with local ministries in the event of a disaster.
CRASH is available to conduct Disaster Volunteer Training seminars (DVT) for churches, schools or missions with a focus on pastoral crisis intervention and practical volunteer leadership. CRASH has produced a child-safe place trauma intervention curriculum called “Operation SAFE” that is used to help children in evacuee centers recover from trauma. CRASH has provided leadership and coordination for volunteers responding to typhoons, landslides, blizzards and earthquakes in Japan and internationally in cooperation with the JEMA and the JEA.

Mission Statement
The mission statement for CRASH is to equip Christians in Japan to be ready when disaster strikes to show the love of Jesus in practical and effective ways. Our method is to provide a model of action, accurate information and volunteer training to a broad network of churches and ministries across Japan.
CRASH is endorsed by JEMA the Japan Evangelical Missionary Association and works in cooperation with the Disaster Relief Commission of the Japan Evangelical Association.

FAQs

If I donate money for CRASH, how will it be used?

Donations to CRASH will be directed in the following ways:

•Set up the necessary infrastructure to mobilize volunteers. This includes buying vital communication equipment such as satellite phones and networking devices. We will also set up six staging areas in the affected areas through which to spearhead relief operations.
•Equip survey teams to reach out to localities and assess needs. Each survey team requires $3500 in funding in order to operate safely and effectively.
•Identify & meet physical needs on a local level as needed. For example: tarps, food, water, blankets, batteries, gasoline, and medicine.
When would international volunteer teams be welcomed?

We are currently in the assessment stage of operations. This means we are gathering information, discovering specific needs in affected areas, and setting up a safe, effective system in order to facilitate potential volunteers. Once we have done that, we can consider inquiries for volunteer teams.

Our first forward base will be established Monday, March 21, 2011. This will open up opportunities for teams to get involved. To apply, please go to our crashjapan.com homepage and click the link to "Volunteer to Help or Join the CRASH Network."

Do you provide funding for volunteer teams?

No, we do not fund volunteer teams; all teams must be self-funded. We facilitate, provide equipment & supplies, secure housing, and delegate needs to be met by teams that can afford to come.

Will you be collecting physical donations; blankets, clothing, etc?

We will NOT be collecting physical donations. Large overseas shipments of supplies can be expensive, cumbersome, and risky. We do not have space to store physical donations, nor equipment to transport them, and there’s always a chance that once they arrive they will not match the needs. Financial contributions are the most flexible and effective kind of resource we can use to meet the needs of individual communities.
