* NUMBER OF HOMES NEEDING REBUILDING
Total: 250,000
Hancock County: 18,000 source: Kathleen Johnson, EOC, Mike Sweeney. See specifics below.
So if 250,000 homes need rebuilding, and the intial guesstimates above are close, here's what's required:
125,000 trucks of framing lumber
62,500 trucks of sheet rock
600 million sq ft of insulation
400 million sq ft of shingles
1 BILLION sq ft of plywood
7.5 million posts (8"x8"x12')
250,000 showers
500,000 toilets
500,000 bathroom sinks
250,000 kitchen sinks
250,000 stoves
250,000 fridges
250,000 furnaces
250,000 water heaters
finish flooring, tile, carpet, etc
Please estimate the amount of concrete and other
misc supplies. I need help with this. And I need the
detail. We're going to go to the manufacturers of
this stuff and get it donated. One house at a time.
In total, we're talking about $4B-10B that the government
would need to cover the rebuild, depending on what percentage
is picked up by insurance companies and charities.
# of houses, by region:
Per Kathleen Johnson: Of the 19,000 homes in Hancock County, 10,000 were either destroyed or will need repair. From her work with the LTRC in Hancock
County.
Per Kathleen Johnson, City of Waveland: Here is a link to what I present to the corporations for a materials list for an average refurbish job on a house flooded 4-8 feet, 1,400 Sq Ft. A House flooded less than that has a 20% lesser cost. Homes flooded over 8 feet are 20% higher.
http://wavelandcitizensfund.org/constructioncosts.html
Per Kathleen: For a home flooded from 4 -8 feet with water and wind damage on the roof - the following costs are an average for a one story home which has no structural damage. If your organization would like to adopt one or more homes - we would be glad to submit the names and stories for the individual families. Every victim here has a different story, different priorities, different specific needs. We would like you to "meet" our families and understand this disaster from their perspective.
