- from the website: We represent a grassroots force of more than 750,000 members and supporters nationwide. HRC envisions an America where LGBT people are ensured their basic equal rights and can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in their communities. Founded in 1980, the Human Rights Campaign advocates on behalf of LGBT Americans, mobilizes grassroots actions in diverse communities, invests strategically to elect fair-minded individuals to office and educates the public about LGBT issues. Through research, educational efforts and outreach, the HRC Foundation encourages lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans to live their lives openly and seeks to change the hearts and minds of Americans to the side of equality.
