Emergency Shelters Open

(4-27-11) The Carnes Recreation Center in Attalla has been opened as a Red Cross Emergency Shelter and will be open until 8am Thursday morning for anyone needing shelter due to today's weather events. Carnes is located on 102 Case Avenue off of Highway 77 in Attalla. Their phone number is 256-538-3712. Severe weather shelters have also been opened at Southside First Baptist Church and the Northeast Alabama Water Authority. Southside First Baptist Church is located at 2560 Mountain View Dr., and the Water Authority is located on Highway 411 North in Gadsden. For more information, call 1st Baptist at 256-442-5399 and the Water Authority at 256-546-4884. Also, pre-storm refuges have been opened at the Oxford Civic Center (401 McCullers Lane, Oxford) and the Piedmont Civic Center (500 Mills Road, Piedmont).
