- FROM THE SITE: HERO works as a catalyst for community development in areas of the Alabama Black Belt to end rural poverty. As a non-profit housing resource center, HERO provides community resources and housing education. HERO began in 1994 by a group of committed citizens who wanted to create a strong community focused on family. HERO is a 501c3 non-profit organization.

Anyone that wants to make a donation of personal items, i.e. towels, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, hand towels, towels, washclothes, cleaning supplies, feminine products, clothes, toilet paper, paper towels, water, bedding, shampoo, body wash, canned food, non-perishable food can be dropped off at the HERO office downtown for the Sawyerville victims.
