from website: As Mississippi volunteers mobilize in response to last week’s deadly tornadoes, nine local Volunteer Response Centers are currently coordinating volunteer activity in five Mississippi counties. The Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service (MCVS) has initially documented 3,588 volunteers serving over 13,159 hours since Friday, and is awaiting additional reports of volunteer response activity from several other counties. To volunteer, please register through the area's approved Volunteer Response Center location. Before leaving an area, please check out at the VRC.

Notes

Chickasaw County

Volunteers should report to the Chickasaw County Emergency Management, 122 S. Lowe Street, Houston, just south of the Houston Fire Station. There are also American Red Cross-affiliated VRCs in Bethel, Dixieland and Prairie. Call 662-448-1012 for more information.
Greene County

Greene County Fire Department Volunteer Martha Davis is handling volunteer response logistics. Individuals or organizations wishing to volunteer in Greene County should call 601.394.5627 or report to the Greene County Emergency Operations Center, 401 McInnis Avenue, Leakesville.
Jasper County

Jasper County's Louin VRC operated Friday through Sunday, and will resume operations if the need arises.
Kemper County

Volunteers are being deployed from the Meridian Red Cross Chapter, 1820 23rd Avenue, Meridian, MS.
Lafayette County

Oxford Park Commission Senior Corps RSVP volunteers and North Central Mississippi Medical Reserve Corps have established a VRC in Oxford. The VRC operated April 30th at Camp Lake Stephens (117 Camp Lake Stephens Road), and will operate May 1-3 from Pine Flat Methodist Church (40 County Road 422). Red Cross and Salvation Army have established bases of operations at this location, and the site is accepting/distributing donated items. Volunteer chainsaw operators are particularly needed at this time. Any individual or group who would like to volunteer in Lafayette County should call MCVS AmeriCorps VISTA Judy Warren at 662.816.1361.
Monroe County

Community of Wren Wren Volunteer Fire Department VRC (32659 HWY 45 N, Aberdeen) is accepting volunteers and rounding up Monroe County pets and livestock. Individuals or organizations wishing to volunteer in Wren should call 601.750.0671.

Smithville Enter Smithville on Highway 25 North, and continue through town until you reach the school. Inform checkpoint officials you are a volunteer. When arriving at the school, follow direction of the National Guardsmen to park and proceed to the blue tents for check-in, safety training, and work site assignment. Individuals or organizations wishing to volunteer in Smithville should call 601.813.3055. PLEASE NOTE: The town of Smithville is presently closed from 6:30 pm to 6:00 am. During non-curfew hours of 6:00 am and 6:30 pm, only residents, officials, and registered volunteers will be allowed in the community.
