Grassroots Volunteer Network

Grassroots Volunteer Network was started by a group of Katrina
Relief volunteers who wanted to make a long-term commitment
to the victims of Katrina and assure others a simple way to
volunteer. We work with those who are affected by disaster
to assist them in the rebuilding of their lives.

What We Are Doing
GRVN is working with the East Biloxi Coordination and Relief
Center focusing in East Biloxi, one of the hardest hit areas,
where the per capita income of under $18,000 and 82% of the
residents did not have flood insurance. In an area where as
many 90% of the homes may have to be demolished, we are trying
to salvage as many as possible from the rampant black mold
which will eventually rot the frame of the house. GRVN has
been active in all three stages of the Relief Effort:
Demolition, Mold Treatment/Roofing and finally Rebuilding.
GRVN is almost completed with the Demolition phase, in which
all of the furniture, appliances and debris is removed from
the home, then the home is stripped down to the studs and
sub-floors. GRVN is actively pursuing the Mold Abatement/Roofing
phase in which we repair roofs and treat homes for the rampant
black mold. Finally, GRVN is beginning to enter the Rebuilding
phase of the Relief Effort. With the help of more skilled
volunteers, such as carpenters, electricians and plumbers, we
will be able to expand our efforts in this part of the Relief
Effort.

Donate Your Time
There are a wide range of jobs available and necessary to
complete the rebuilding process. All physical abilities can
contribute in some way. A strong heart and open mind is all
that is required.

There is such a need for volunteers in the East Biloxi area that
we can accommodate any timeframe you are able to commit to. To
volunteer, simply fill out the application with your expected
dates of service. If planning on arriving by air and will need
an airport pickup, please schedule your flight to arrive into
the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.
