Aug 2011: Reportedly the only org in the region housing vols. Closing in a few months. Running out of money...

Donations needed immediately for help restoring CVM’s roof damage from Hurricane Gustav! (Our roof needs repairs that are estimated to cost $10,000 in labor and supplies. We need to fix the roof so that our volunteers have safe, clean and dry housing at CV.)

Please send donations to Camp Victor at the attention of: Dawna Howell

=======================================
5/28/07 Update:

All operations were moved from Christ Victor Lutheran Church
to The Swingster Bldg. (which was renovated to be a volunteer
camp and distribution center).

Camp Victor is staffed and maintained by volunteers. As such,
you can expect to be asked to perform chores around the building,
including emptying trash cans, stocking paper towels, cleaning the
bathrooms, cooking and other maintenance activities.

-------------------------------------------------------

4/2/07 UPDATE through Matt Herzberg (Reservations Coord.):

They now have 212 beds/bunks and full operational volunteer
accomodations services.

Strictly serving Jackson County, MS.

Primary needs for Distribution to Community:

Building Supplies/Materials

Primary Volunteer Needs:

Skilled Construction Trade Volunteers (NOTE: They generally ask
if coming in groups that 1 in 5 of volunteers are skilled
tradespersons & they DO NOT turn away unskilled construction
volunteers and can use help in the office as well as sorters and
helpers to distribute to the community in their warehouse).

They've had a steady flow of approximately 200 volunteers on site
since Christmas '06 consistently but recently has reduced to about
80-100 at a time and they expect it will pick back up again summer
'07.

LDR is currently operating through three locations along the
Mississippi Gulf Coast:

Camp Victor, at Christus Victor Lutheran Church and the Swingster
warehouse building in Ocean Springs, is currently accepting up to
200 volunteers each week with overflow for an additional 80 at Tent
City.

Volunteers are provided with beds, showers, and three meals each
day. The majority of the work being done involves rebuilding and
distribution of relief supplies to local residents. No volunteers
