About this facility
- Mission
- Blogging buddies Caitlin of Roost and Laken of Farmhouse have joined together to create a place to keep people informed about relief efforts within the state of Alabama after the April 27th tornadoes. Caitlin is a Birmingham native and Laken is a student at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. We hope you will partner with us to raise support and if you have any questions or information regarding donation/volunteer opportunities we would love to hear from you! On April 27th one hundred and eighty tornados tore their way through the south taking the lives of hundreds and injuring thousands. A 1.5 mile wide, F-5 tornado demolished 80 miles worth of schools, churches, businesses, wildlife and homes heavily impacting Tuscaloosa, northern Birmingham, and several other Alabama communities. Officials claim there are currently 700 displaced families in shelters throughout the state, and this number is expected to grow. Hundreds of people are still unaccounted for and as the debris removal is underway the death toll is steadily rising. Please join us as we raise relief support to aid the families who have lost their homes, jobs and loved ones. This site is a place to stay informed on current volunteer opportunities, where and how to make donations, and the latest news regarding rebuilding the great state of Alabama. This is a wonderful opportunity for all of us, no matter our race, religion or politics, to show love and compassion for those in need. We ask that you please spread the word about Shelter For The South and know that even the smallest donation can make the biggest difference!
