About Us
List My Organization RebuildJoplin.org, a Bright Futures initiative, is a relevant resource for people affected by the storm AND for those who wish to help. The idea came about when the team at Bright Futures realized that the structure it uses could be adapted to help those impacted by the tornado. Bright Futures connects those in need with existing resources and RebuildJoplin.org is doing the same. On May 22nd, 2011 an EF-5 tornado cut a path through Joplin that destroyed approximately 30% of the city. In the wake of this tragic event, the people impacted began searching for trusted resources and dependable information. As an official source of information, RebuildJoplin.org was soon endorsed by the City of Joplin, Joplin Schools, Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Southwest Missouri & Southeast Kansas and multiple partner organizations. It took less than 36 hours for a team of volunteers to build the site, verify information, and announce the launch. Lead by volunteers and the crew from SPI Creative, RebuildJoplin.org will serve as a model for other communities affected by disasters. RebuildJoplin.org is a Bright Futures initiative. Bright Futures is a grass roots, community based program that creates partnerships and utilizes community resources for the common goal of helping our kids and strengthening our families and community. In the wake of the destruction, Bright Futures adapted a successful program to meet the needs of those impacted by the tornado. - Service
