About this facility

Mission
from website: who we are
For more than 30 years…
The Upper Valley Haven has provided temporary shelter and educational programming for homeless families and adults as well as food and clothing to anyone in need. The Haven has fostered independence through our Shelter Advocacy, Aftercare, Outreach and Education Programs. The Haven is open 365 days per year and never charges for any of its services. We serve over 6,800 people per year. An estimated 50 people a night are homeless in the Upper Valley; they live in the woods, in tents, in their cars, or on the couches of family or friends. Hundreds more are the “working poor;” despite holding jobs, they struggle to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. It is difficult to adequately describe the stress and range of emotions surrounding homelessness and poverty. The same is true of the rewards our donors, staff, and volunteers experience from helping those in need.

Education for Kids

We believe one of the most significant things we do with the children is to promote the development of a rich inner life that will sustain them through their present and future difficulties and challenges. Learn more…

Adult Learning Opportunities

The Haven provides a variety of adult learning opportunities. These resources are for adults living in the shelter, former guests, and members of the community. Learn more…

The Food Shelf

Families and individuals in need of food can visit the Haven’s Food Shelf once a month for a week’s supply of groceries (including dairy, fresh produce and meant) and as often as needed for bread and frech produce. During a Food Shelf visit, families “shop” the shelf, selecting from a wide range of non-perishable items, meat, dairy and fresh produce. Learn more…

Outreach and Aftercare

Many people come through our doors in need of more than food, clothing and/or a shower. Our Outreach Case Managers addresses this population by assisting with short-term development of solutions and referrals to other organizations for longer term help. Learn more…
