The state gives away almost four million dollars to Oklahoma's
rural fire departments.

The grants are targeted at Oklahoma's smallest communities
and fire departments in the most desperate need of money.

If divided equally, each rural fire department would get less
than $4,500 dollars.

While that money will help, it may not be enough for some of
the rural departments that say they've already burned through
their budget for the year.

These grants are annual grants given out about this time and while
they are much needed and appreciated they will not cover the
operating expenses of the last couple of months for most
departments. Brush trucks because of their nature are some
of the most abused apparatus in the fire service not because
we try to abuse them but because they operate off the road.

Re-posted from the Silver City Volunteer Fire Department 8/16/12 (LTel:

To correct a rumor that's going around, Silver City Fire Department is NOT dissolving due to financial problems, lack of volunteers, or any other reason. We're still here, still responding, still making plans for the future, still paying our bills on time, and we have added six people to our roster during the past 30 days. Money gets tight from time to time, but we've always managed to squeak through.
