SERVES: Tulane/Gravier/Mid-City
FROM THE WEBSITE:
Rebuilding
In 2007, we plan to rebuild the homes that we gutted out in '06 and
any other places in the neighborhood that need assistance. We have the
skilled labor force that can do some of the installation and help with
roofing. In addition, we are looking for General Contractors that can
assist our Americorps members and train them in a range of skills. Also,
Plumbers and Electricians are desperately needed.

Advocacy/Outreach
Our new 310 S. Broad Street address is meant to serve the community.
Residents can walk in during our business hours of 8-4 M-Fri. and can
meet with one of our Neighborhood Advocates. If we cannot help with
their request, we can hopefully put them in touch with the right
people. With contacts around the city, and a growing resource list,
residents can be assisted in a range of issues.

(Old note)
Pre Katrina the Tulane-Gravier neighborhood was, and still is, one
of the poorest neighborhoods in New Orleans. So far, we have helped
residents with FEMA, the Road Home Program, Spanish translation,
healthcare access, learning to use a computer, applying for small
business loans, and lots of house gutting/reconstruction. We are
currently trying to open a neighborhood advocacy center. This center
will offer residents a permanant place to come for assistance and
increase our visibility in the community.
