About this facility

Mission
Second Harvest channels excess food to food banks and food pantries around the nation. Serving all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The America’s Second Harvest Network provides emergency food assistance to more than 25 million Americans in need every year. Our network secures and distributes more than 2 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually; and supports approximately 50,000 local charitable agencies operating more than 94,000 programs including after-school programs, emergency shelters, food pantries, Kids Cafes and soup kitchens. FACT: One in four people in a soup kitchen line is a child. The key to finding food is to find one of the food pantries that are hooked into the Second Harvest food distribution system. The system tracks needs online. And the system is used to decide where to send trucks of food. Before you call...
Please note that many food banks and food-rescue organizations do not provide direct food assistance to families and individuals, but do provide food to soup kitchens, food pantries and shelters. Your local food bank or food-rescue organization can refer you to soup kitchens and food pantries in your area. These community agencies provide direct food assistance.
You will have to enter your town/zip to find local resources.

Notes

Feeding America, through Ozarks Food Harvest and six network members serving Missouri, is responding to the emergency food assistance needs of people impacted by tornadoes that devastated Joplin, MO on May 22

The majority of residents have no power, and most areas, including the local hospital, has no running water. Many people are moving in with family and friends, but food is starting to spoil. We anticipate a dramatic increase in need for food for the weeks and months ahead as people try to pick up the pieces of their lives. Our food bank network has assembled supplies estimated at $650,000 in just the past two days. As shelters disband, many people will be looking for food assistance for the very first time.

Feeding America has been working to support relief efforts in the regions impacted by record flooding and tornado outbreaks since April. As the men, women, and children effected by these storms attempt to put their lives back together our network will continue to be in emergency mode to address the additional demand for food and grocery items for many months to come.
