Volunteer Opportunities:
Although the hurricane seasons of 2004 and 2005 have long passed,
in many communities the damage is not quickly or easily repaired.
This is where the work of the long-term recovery organizations
offers a lifeline of hope to those still struggling to put their
lives back together. These organizations work with the
disenfranchised in their communities ? the least and the lost who
often "fall between the cracks" in receiving other types of
assistance. Volunteer work teams play a vital role in completing
the physical tasks of rebuilding and recovery. The Storm Recovery
Center works closely with local long-term recovery organizations
to assist in recruiting and placing volunteers. In all cases,
volunteer teams can serve for as long as they are able ? from a
weekend to a week or longer. In most cases, housing is available.

Please contact the Storm Center to learn more about specific
opportunities or to schedule a team:
1-800-282-8011 ext. 149 or stormrecovery@flumc.org

As of January 2007:

Charlotte County:
The Interfaith Interagency Network of Charlotte County (IINCC) is
in need of teams with skilled labor, including carpenters, roofers,
tile and carpet installers and concrete workers. Electricians
are also needed but must be locally licensed due to code and
permitting requirements in Charlotte County.
As of the Summer of 2007, we are "standing down" until the next disaster, having completed the projects we were tasked with. While we do not have an active staff, our Board of Directors meet regularly to ensure we are prepared for the next disaster. (Statistics and updates will be included in this site hopefully by the end of 2007!)

Hendry and Glades Counties:
Community Rebuilding Ecumenical Workforce (CREW) is in need of
teams with both skilled and unskilled labor. They have over 250
homes still needing repairs including dry walling, flooring,
ceiling work, roofing, demolition, window and/or door
replacement.
Also see CAT Facility entry at: https://ccc.haghy.com/shelters/1062

Monroe County (Florida Keys):
Paradise Interfaith Network (PIN) is working with families on
Big Coppitt Key to repair and harden mobile homes damaged by storm
surge from Hurricane Wilma. Work includes repairing and/or replacing
dry wall and fiber board as well as repairing metal roofs.

Palm Beach County:
Christians Reaching Out to Society (CROS) needs volunteer teams
who have at least one team member experienced in construction.
Work includes dry walling, roofing, flooring, etc.

Tornado Opportunities February 2007:
Please submit a team application to Storm Recovery if you are
interested in helping with the long term recovery in the tornado
damaged areas. There is an anticipated need for work teams in
the tornado affected areas for the next six months.

=========================================================

The Florida Conference has established a central location for
coordinating Storm Recovery efforts. Our Storm Recovery Center
is located in the United Methodist Building in Lakeland, Florida
and is set up to receive calls from volunteer work teams offering
assistance to those in need. These work teams will be matched
with requests from those in the storm-affected areas. You will be
contacted by the Storm Recovery Center or the site coordinator to
work out the details of your assignment location and date. The
site coordinator will provide support and direction for you and
