About this facility

Mission
Cavish is an Urdu word of Persian origin, which means effort or struggle. This national level NGO was established in July 1997 and registered as a society in August 1998 under Societies Act, 1860. The organization was set up by a group of professionals brought together by a common desire to struggle against poverty, inequity and injustice. Cavish wants to take an active role in the development process in Pakistan, by working towards sustainable human development through participatory approaches. Cavish is endeavoring to make a positive contribution in these areas through implementing projects that are presently running all over Pakistan. It is committed to poverty alleviation and education initiatives, facilitating people in their struggle to achieve the greatest degree of self-reliance and social integration. A significant area of expertise of Cavish that has built up over the last eight years has been mobilization of communities through participatory approaches. Cavish has a strong resource base in Participatory Reflection and Action (PRA) philosophy. Cavish is committed to building capacity of CBOs, NGOs and other development actors in implementing projects using the participatory approach, through formal training and practical field work. Over the past seven years we have facilitated organizations like Oxfam, Plan Pakistan , Lead Pakistan, Unicef, Islamic Relief, IIMI, IDSP and institutions like Rural Support Programs and Government of Pakistan, in this regard. Past experience of Cavish in implementing projects has been in sectors like Universal Primary Education (UPE), participatory planning in local bodies, awareness raising in issues like legal rights of women, livestock management, reproductive health, water management, etc. Cavish has also developed a comprehensive model of integrated components like adult literacy, skill development; awareness raising that can eventually lead to mobilization and empowerment of rural communities.
