Our current mission is to continue in meeting the needs of Hurricane Katrina victims and to serve as a venue to find and channel funds given by caring individuals and corporations that want their contributions to make a difference right here in Jackson County, Mississippi.

In accordance with the Mississippi Hurricane Recovery Fund, our long term mission is to organize, facilitate, and coordinate the long term recovery effort to rebuild Jackson County. This effort will continue to serve as a venue to find and channel funds to assist the interfaith community, small business owners, homeowners, social service agencies, and non-profit organizations in the effort to meet the unmet needs of Hurricane Katrina. Rebuild Jackson County is the official Long Term Recovery Committee (LTRC) for Jackson County, Mississippi.

Rebuild Jackson County is a public/private partnership that coordinate the recovery needs of the citizens of Jackson County impacted by Hurricane Katrina. This is a collaborative effort which includes private citizens, non-profit organizations, interfaith communities, government entities, local businesses and industries.

Rebuild Jackson County will assist individuals and families in restoring their lives primarily, but not exclusively, by rebuilding and refurbishing their homes.

Recovery from the damage caused by hurricanes requires resources from all aspects of the communities affected and from state and federal governments. To better understand the recovery process here is a look at how groups and agencies are working to help residents of Jackson County.

Initially after a disaster, the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Mississippi’s State Emergency Management Agency and voluntary agencies seek to help victims with their immediate needs of housing, food and water. As homes are repaired, people return to work and cities continue with cleanup and rebuilding. Some individuals, families and areas that are especially hard hit may need more time to recover. Long-term recovery addresses these ongoing needs.

Organizations and committees have been formed to focus on different aspects of this phase of recovery. In September 2005, Rebuild Jackson County was organized under the Bacot-McCarty Foundation following
Hurricane Katrina to collect funds needed for recovery efforts in Jackson County. Rebuild Jackson County has evolved into a Long Term Recovery Organization with a mission to organize, facilitate and coordinate the long term recovery effort in Jackson County. This effort will continue to serve as a venue to find and channel funds to assist the interfaith community, small business owners, homeowners, social service agencies and non-profit organizations in the effort to meet the unmet needs left by Hurricane Katrina.
